The November 20th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including comparing Angels a top contender to sign Moncada, Hamilton’s ex-accountability coach joins Angels organization and much more…
The Story: The Angels are one of eight prime suitor for Yoan Moncada.
The Monkey Says: Reports from the organization suggest they aren’t going to make a play for him, but there are still weeks or even months yet before they actually can make him an offer, so who really knows what their intentions are. It would be a huge boon for the Angels farm system, but it would also cost them quite a bit of money.
The Story: Johnny Narron, Josh Hamilton’s former accountability partner, has joined the Angels organization as the hitting coach for the Salt Lake Bees.
The Monkey Says: Despite his connection to Hamilton, it is doubtful that Narron will play any real role with Hamilton during the season.
The Story: The Angels signed two pitchers and two catchers to minor league deals with invitations to spring training.
The Monkey Says: Alex Sanabia is the name you might recognize here. He had a outlier half season of success for the Marlins in 2010, but has mostly been in the minors since then as he doesn’t miss bats at all. None of the four figure to have any real shot at making the big league roster.
The Story: Howie Kendrick tops the list of trade candidates in the AL West.
The Monkey Says: Ready yourselves for it, folks. The trade is a-comin’.
The Story: Buster Olney rated Howie Kendrick as the ninth-best second baseman in baseball.
The Monkey Says: That seems low, but it also isn’t easy to definitively say he is better than anyone above him. Kipnis was terrible last season, but had been much better prior to 2014. Utley isn’t the same guy he used to be, so maybe Howie is better than him now as well, but I think that’s about as high as I can argue him up.
The Story: The Angels promoted Bill Richardson from the Burlington Bees manager to the Arkansas Travelers manager.
The Monkey Says: He moves up two classes, so I guess that is a promotion, but
