The Monkey Says: I don’t think their issues in Latin America after the skimming scandal get nearly enough attention. The Angels had found great success over those eight years with Latin American players (Santana, Aybar, Callaspo, K-Rod) and then basically shut things down until Dipoto took over last year and even still they are really only just getting going now.

The Monkey Says: The real killer is that the warning signs were there for years, but Tony Reagins completely ignored them because of one great bounceback season. Thank again, Tony.
The Monkey Says: I think the contract is perfectly fine. Even with his maddening inconsistency, he’s a pretty safe bet to be a two-win player and can be as much as a four-win player in years where it all clicks. Part of why I rated him so low is just that there is actually a lot of talent at shortstop nowadays.
The Story: Adam Kennedy was voted the 15th best acquisition by the Angels of all-time.
The Monkey Says: I have to think that most of that comes for his three-homer game in the ALCS. I never really liked AK that much, but I do think he was probably a bit underrated during his prime years. However, I am also guessing that this ranking doesn’t take into account what was given up to acquire the player, which in this case was Jim Edmonds, a rather hefty price to pay even if he was unlikely to re-sign in Anaheim.
The Story: A positive preview of Peter Bourjos’ 2013 season.
The Monkey Says: If you think that is a rosy projection, just wait until February when I kick off my series of Angel player previews and let my unhealthy mancrush on Bourjos start anew.
