The July 31st, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Angels likely to stand pat at deadline, Wilson to return on Saturday and much more…

The Story: The Angels are likely to stand pat at the trade deadline.
The Monkey Says: Dipoto, as always, leaves the door open should something fall in their lap, but if it does, it won’t be anything of note. I was hoping that they’d swoop in on Justin Masterson if Cleveland couldn’t get a decent offer and just wanted to dump salary, but the Cardinals actually did give them something. In that case, I’ll just hope for them to  snag Josh Willingham to fill out the DH role, if he can be had on the cheap.

The Story: C.J. Wilson declared himself ready to start Saturday.
The Monkey Says: He passed his final bullpen session. Now we wait and see who gets bumped from the rotation in his stead. My money is on Hector Santiago.

The Story: Garrett Richards has added velocity this year but he doesn’t know why.
The Monkey Says: That’s just not fair. Somewhere Jered Weaver is quietly sobbing.

The Story: Mike Scioscia still approves of the current playoff system.
The Monkey Says: Let’s see if he still feels that way should the Angels lose the Wild Card play-in game.

The Story: The Angels signed Dominican prospect SS Julio Garcia.
The Monkey Says: The only thing I know about him is that he is a human, though I haven’t actually had it confirmed… yet.

The Story: Troy Percival has been hired as the coach for UC Riverside.
The Monkey Says: Every fan who wants Percival to take over for Mike Butcher just saw their dream come one step closer to reality.
