Halo Headlines: Angels need Cole Hamels, Pujols dealing with sore foot, Trout motivated to prove doubters wrong

The July 20th, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including the Angels need Cole Hamels, Pujols limited by a sore foot, Trout wanted to prove doubters wrong after the draft and much more…

The Story: The Angel NEED Cole Hamels to win the Wild Card.

The Monkey Says: No, they don’t.  They need more pitching, absolutely, but the Angels do not need to acquire an ace.  If Dan Haren comes back healthy and pitching the way he normally does, the Halos are going to be looking a heck of a lot better.  The same goes to a lesser degree with Ervin Santana.  That is a lot of “ifs” and “buts,” so it does make sense for the Halos to acquire more pitching to help for the post-season run.  But it can be a lesser pitcher than Hamels, maybe Ryan Dempster, maybe Francisco Liriano, maybe Jason Vargas.  Just somebody who can be reliable and eat innings.  An ace like Hamels or Greinke would be tremendous and a true luxury, but not a need.

The Story: Albert Pujols will continue to DH until his sore foot gets better.

The Monkey Says: No cause for concern here.  The injury clearly isn’t affecting him in the batter’s box, but he has been hobbling in the field and had a little trouble on the basepaths.

The Story: Mike Trout told Dan Patrick he was motivated to prove doubters wrong after falling in the first round of the draft.

The Monkey Says: Hey, whatever lights your fire, I’m good with it.  Just keep doing what you’re doing.  If it helps any, I heard Josh Hamilton and Derek Jeter saying you are way overrated.  You better show them up.

The Story: The Angels as characters from the Batman film franchise.

The Monkey Says: Well done, though I do think Torii is a better Alfred and that Moreno is a better Harvey Dent.
