Halo Headlines: Angels own the best outfield, Cron and Cowart amongst top prospects

The January 28th, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including Angels own the best outfield, Cron and Cowart amongst top prospects and much more…

The Story: The Angels rank as having the best outfield in the majors.

The Monkey Says: Let me just start by saying that I'm proud of Joe for not being a Braves homer and ranking them first. I do think it is a closer race than he says it is.  A lot of it depends on how well Bourjos pans out and if the Upton brothers live up to their lofty potential now that they are united.

The Story: Of course, ESPN readers disagree and rank the Braves outfield as the best.

The Monkey Says: At the time I posted this, the Braves outfield had over twice as many votes as the Angels outfield, which is just preposterous.  I think that speaks to just how much the general public is unaware of Bourjos' defensive prowess and how much they overrate the Uptons.

The Story: C.J. Cron is rated at the fourth best first base prospect in baseball.

The Monkey Says: I don't want to spoil my analysis of Cron in the MWAH prospect countdown, but I am not nearly as high on him as others.  His production certainly justifies this ranking, but I have real concerns about whether or not he can keep it up at the higher levels.

The Story: Kaleb Cowart is rated as the fifth best third base prospect in baseball.

The Monkey Says: For me, this is the flip side to Cron.  I probably like Cowart more than most and think that he could really rocket up the prospect charts once he puts together another strong season, silencing some of his doubters.

The Story: A look at the performances of underrated rookie ball players Wendell Soto and Joel Capote.

The Monkey Says: It is hard to pay attention to Rookie Ball and not end up rooting for guys like these, even though most of them don't pan out.
