The August 12th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Angels playoff hopes pinned to a slumping offense and thin rotation, Shoemaker and Navarro thriving and much more…

The Story: The Angels are making a playoff push with thin pitching and a slumping offense.
The Monkey Says: What? Like that’s a problem? Oh, right it is. Good thing they built up a huge lead in the Wild Card race. And it isn’t like the Angels franchise has a history of blowing playoff spots after being up by a huge margi-

The Story: Matt Shoemaker and Efren Navarro are proving their worth among a roster of stars.
The Monkey Says: For now. Who knows how long it will last. Shoemaker is pitching better than he has at any level and Navarro has barely hit at all the last two weeks. Navarro isn’t nearly as critical to their success as Shoemaker is though, so let’s hope that at least Matt can keep it up.

The Story: The best and worst benches so far.
The Monkey Says: The Angels are right in the middle with a slightly negative bench WAR. I think a lot of that comes from the failed Raul Ibanez experience and because Collin Cowgill gets included as a starter according to their methodology.

The Story: Official scoring has added an additional minute to the 19-inning Sox-Angels game.
The Monkey Says: OH MY GOD THAT GAME IS NEVER GOING TO END!!!

The Story: The missed throw to the plate for last Tuesday’s game has been changed from an error to a fielder’s choice.
The Monkey Says: That gives Jepsen an earned run on his ledger. I think that is totally BS though. The throw was there in time to get the runner. Iannetta just plain didn’t catch it.
