The December 18th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Angels tried to trade Hamilton, Beckham in ‘holding pattern’ and much more…

The Story: The Angels have been trying to trade Josh Hamilton.
The Monkey Says: Without much success, obviously. It wrote about this whole thing yesterday, so I won’t rehash the whole thought on it. I will say though that I would have loved to have listened in on that phone call when Dipoto tried to flip him back to the Rangers.

The Story: Talks between the Angels and Gordon Beckham are in a “holding pattern.”
The Monkey Says: It sounds like he wants a starting gig. He should have a very good shot at being the starter in Anaheim, but they Halos must not be willing to promise it to him, wisely so. I have a hard time seeing any other team out there that would be willing to make that promise.

The Story: Jim Bowden ranks the likely landing spots for Max Scherzer.
The Monkey Says: The Angels make the list even though even Bowden pretty much admits that they aren’t interested in him due to the price. Gotta love Jim Bowden.

The Story: The Angels would be wise not to rely on Josh Hamilton.
The Monkey Says: Who says they are? They traded Kendrick, but they beefed up their rotation in the process. They also added Matt Joyce to give their lineup more depth and provide more options in the outfield. None of this means that Josh Hamilton is suddenly more crucial than ever to their success. He was injured or crappy for most of last season and they did just fine.

The Story: A look at Andrew Heaney’s development path.
The Monkey Says: The Marlins seemed to lose a bit of faith in him, but when the two problems a guy has are getting more consistent mechanics and getting stronger, those are relatively easy issues to correct and thus worthy gambles.

The Story: A prospect profile of Eric Stamets.
The Monkey Says: [RESPONSE REDACTED SO AS NOT TO SPOIL MWAH’S OWN PROFILE OF STAMETS IN THE TOP PROSPECT COUNTDOWN. STAMETS’S PROFILE WILL BE RELEASED ON 12/26.]
