The Monkey Says: This is a big story nationally, but any Angel fan who has been paying attention was already aware of this. Trumbo should have plenty of suitors this off-season, but my hunch has long been that the Angels overvalue him to a point that it will scare teams off. Bourjos should be attractive too, but there aren't nearly as many logical fits for him nor will he fetch as good of a return.
The Story: Albert Pujols doesn't know if he wants the Cardinals or Red Sox to win the World Series.
The Monkey Says: He had a legendary career in St. Louis but is totally BFFs with David Ortiz, which somehow make this a tie in his brain. Either that or Pujols is trolling hard against all the Cardinal fans that lambasted him after he left for Anaheim.
The Story: The Padres are one team said to be very interested in Mark Trumbo.
The Monkey Says: Nice, but not really a match since San Diego has nothing in the way of an up-and-coming pitcher to trade for Trumbo. I kind of like the idea of using Trumbo to land Chase Headley instead or perhaps to be part of a three-way trade that gets the Angels the pitching they need but sends Headley elsewhere. Either way, I wouldn't expect much to come of this particular rumor due to the poor trade match. That being said, if I were the Angels I'd ask the Padres for Robbie Erlin, Yonder Alonso and Nick Vincent for Trumbo. There isn't high-end talent there, but Erlin could slot into the back of the rotation, Alonso would be a cheap option at DH (and I still have faith that his power will develop) and Vincent is a cheap, productive arm to add to the bullpen.
The Story: The Angels are banking on rebounds from Albert Pujols and Josh Hamilton.
The Monkey Says: Getting better seasons from those two, and not even seasons in line with their peaks, should give the Halos the offensive boost they need to offset whatever trades of Trumbo, Bourjos or Kendrick that they make. Having a marginally better Hamilton and a healthier Pujols should be a fairly safe assumption except for the fact that none of the assumptions the Angels have made in recent years have actually worked out.
