The Story: What is the best-case scenario for the rest of Albert Pujols' career?
The Monkey Says: So you're saying there's a chance? This is a great article in that it points out just how hard it will be for Pujols to bounce back. I see a lot of people assuming he'll be great next season because he'll be healthy. That could well happen except that it requires him to stay healthy, which is far from a given. Making him a full-time DH would certainly help with that, but in most cases you just can't stop bodies from breaking down.
The Story: C.J. Wilson is confident Josh Hamilton will return to form.
The Monkey Says: That makes one of us. This is not the case of Hamilton having a terrible first half and slowly recovering the rest of the way. No, he has been horrible every month this season. There has been no long stretch where he has flashed his old productivity levels. Whatever he needs to fix needs a whole lot of fixing and I am of the mind that he just isn't capable of implementing the solution.
The Story: On the future of Angels management.
The Monkey Says: I agree with all the points, almost. I still think Dipoto deserves to stay, but he absolutely is to blame for not being able to control Arte. I also agree that Mike Scioscia is probably still a very good manager, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be let go. There is something wrong with the Angels and one of the variables the team can change is the manager. Perhaps bringing in a lesser manager who is more suited for the roster that Dipoto has built and more willing to employ the roster in a way that Dipoto intends will meet with better results. It may not work, but with the Halos looking at a pretty bleak future, they need to try everything they can to see if some move can't reverse their fortunes.
The Story: Mike Scioscia says he will make adjustments to the rotation after this series.
The Monkey Says: Presumably that means Jerome Williams will be removed, but that might be a tenuous since Jason Vargas is on trade waivers right now, so he might need to be replaced. Tommy Hanson has his second minor league start coming tomorrow, so it is possible he could be called up soon to replace somebody. In other words, I have no actual idea what this means but I don't think anyone can possibly be against changes to the rotation.

The Monkey Says: I'm not sure what's worse: that this is a slideshow or that they somehow left out Josh Hamilton.
The Monkey Says: My secret favorite thing about that photo was that there were only like six reporters at that press conference, which I think extends the haunting metaphor of the image even further.
