Halo Headlines: Bourjos to return Friday, the inevitable Mike Trout contract extension

The August 15th, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Bourjos to return Friday, the inevitable Mike Trout contract extension and much more…

The Story: Peter Bourjos will return from the disabled this Friday.

The Monkey Says: Which is only going to make it more difficult for Mike Scioscia to find a way to get playing time for Kole Calhoun.

The Story: The inevitable Mike Trout contract extension.

The Monkey Says: That $152 million figures seems shockingly high, but I'd have to think that nine figures is almost a given for Trout at this point.

The Story: Andrew Romine was recalled with Nick Maronde demoted to Double-A.

The Monkey Says: Maronde hasn't been good, but this was really more of the numbers game than anything else. Romine was needed with Erick Aybar still dealing with leg issues. It doesn't sound like a DL trip is in store, but it wouldn't be a surprise if he missed a few days for precautionary reasons.

The Story: Is J.B. Shuck a Rookie of the Year candidate?

The Monkey Says: Well, he is a rookie so, technically speaking, the answer is yes. Even in this watered down AL rookie class, Shuck doesn't deserve any consideration. He really isn't that good which I know is a hard fact to accept for a fan base that has been conditioned to fall in love with punchless reserve outfielders.

The Story: The Angels and Rangers are on different tracks.

The Monkey Says: It doesn't look good for the Halos, but I don't think they are necessarily the new version of the Mets. I am slowly coming to the realization that 2014 is probably a lost cause though. But given some proper planning, I think they can get back to contending in 2015.

The Story: Kaleb Cowart is going to continue switch-hitting despite his struggles this season.

The Monkey Says: He is too young to quit on it, but if he doesn't start making strides next season then it could very much be on the table.
