The May 22nd, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Cowgill takes return to bench in stride, Wall lost on waivers to Pirates and much more…

The Story: Collin Cowgill is taking his return to a bench role in stride.
The Monkey Says: As I mentioned yesterday, Cowgill has played quite well and probably deserves some kind of more regular role, but at least he is saying all the right things about his return to the bench instead of pouting.

The Story: Josh Wall was lost on waiver to the Pirates.
The Monkey Says: No big loss, but it begs the question of why the Angels DFA’d Wall. They have an open 40-man roster spot and will likely be demoting Efren Navarro for a reliever soon. Could they be on the verge of promoting Cam Bedrosian? Or are they just clearing house in advance of moves they might want to make closer to the trade deadline?

The Story: Looking at who the Angels might use their first round pick on.
The Monkey Says: This is a really tough call because they haven’t established a real pattern under Dipoto. I would have to think they go with pitching since they have so little legitimate rotation prospects in the system, but I’ve also seen them tied to guys who could be impact bats. This is a huge pick for Dipoto and company as it is certain to be the best draft position they get in a long time. A lot depends on who falls to them, of course, but my guess is that they will favor a prospect, preferably a pitcher, who has a ton of upside rather than going after more of a sure bet.
