The November 21st, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Dipoto not eager to trade Kendrick, Bandy and Reynolds added to roster, Roth DFA’d and much more…
The Story: Jerry Dipoto says he is not eager to trade Howie Kendrick.
The Monkey Says: Riiiiiight. I know that when I am not eager to do something, I go out of the way once a week to tell people how I’m getting a lot of interest in doing that thing but ultimately don’t want to do it. He’s just driving the price up. In fact, a trade might have even presented itself via a suggestion by Ken Rosenthal that the Halos swap Kendrick to the Nats for either Jordan Zimmermann or Doug Fister.
The Story: The Angels added C Jett Bandy and RP Danny Reynolds to the 40-man roster and DFA’d LHP Michael Roth and C Jackson Williams.
The Monkey Says: Bandy and Reynolds were added to protect them from the Rule 5 draft. Bandy figures to compete for back-up catcher duties. Noticeably absent from that list of additions is Kaleb Cowart, showing just how low his stock has sunk. Roth spent time with the Angels last season but was awful in the majors despite strong numbers in Double-A. They DFA’d him back in April and he cleared waivers, so there is a good chance both he and Williams will clear waivers this time around too.
The Story: Ten free agent signings that should happen.
The Monkey Says: The suggestion for James Shields is to have him land with the Angels. I’m not such a fan of that as Shields seems like a prime candidate to breakdown in a hurry. Anything more than three years for him is a scary thought.
