The December 18th, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including how the Hamilton signing went down, Bourjos for Nolasco rumor, the best hitter trios of all-time and much more…
The Story: How the Josh Hamilton signing came to pass.
The Monkey Says: We've seen bits and pieces of all this in various other articles, but this gives a better idea of just when the Angels' pursuit really started and how the bidding (or lack thereof) from other teams proceeded.
The Story: Jim Bowden floated the rumor that the Marlins would like to trade Ricky Nolasco for Peter Bourjos.
The Monkey Says: Of course they do because that deal would be wildly in the Marlins favor since they'd be trading one-year and $11+ million of a bad pitcher for four mostly cheap years of an elite defensive center fielder with upside at the plate. Honestly, ESPN really needs to stop letting Jim Bowden report news because he does not appear to have any kind of a BS filter.
The Monkey Says: What's actually kind of crazy is the Trout-Pujols-Hunter ranks highly, so it goes to show that Hamilton may not really be that massive of an upgrade.
The Story: The Angels signed veteran utility infielder Luis Rodriguez to a minor league contract.
The Monkey Says: He takes Angel Sanchez's vacated spot as the token veteran who will be brought to training camp to challenge Andrew Romine for the reserve infielder job.
The Monkey Says: (standing ovation)
