The Story: Brandon McCarthy has been released from the hospital and tweets hilariously in the process.
The Monkey Says: What makes his unfortunate situation even worse is that he is so damned likeable.
The Story: Ervin Santana is making gopherball history.
The Monkey Says: This is actually kind of par for the course for Ervin though. I mean, this is a bit extreme but he has always been prone to allowing home runs and that was only exacerbated by mechanical problems.
The Monkey Says: Yes, that's right, a few weeks of an very nice .855 OPS mixed into an otherwise phenomenal season somehow disqualifies him. Since it is a Rangers reporter, I suppose we should just be glad that he didn't try and build a case for Michael Young winning the award because intangibles.
The Story: The MVP race is between Miguel Cabrera and MIke Trout.
The Monkey Says: It only is if you insist on their being a race. Really, it should be Trout in a landslide and I will explain why later today.
The Monkey Says: I am all for it, at the right price, of course. The real issue is that they still need to figure out what to do with Peter Bourjos if they bring Hunter back. It would be very short-sighted to trade him away in order to make room for a player who might only have one good season left in him. The Angels do have other outfield prospects (and Vernon Wells) on the way in the near future (like Kole Calhoun), but none have the potential that Bourjos does. It is a good problem to have, but it is one they need to figure out.
The Story: Mike Scioscia has a tough call to make on Mark Trumbo.
The Monkey Says: I'm sorry, but it is time to bench him, for at least a week. Vernon Wells is playing well enough and the team can't keep burning ABs on Trumbo with him performing at the kind of level that even Jeff Mathis thinks is a joke. I think he is battling both physical problems and mechanical problems and it is pretty clear by now that he isn't going to play his way through any of those issues.
The Story: Mike Trout's chances of making it into the Hall of Fame could be hindered by his fish-like surname.
The Monkey Says: You can't argue with science.
