The June 27th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Mike Trout’s Hall of Fame timeline, Scioscia still hoping for Frieri to close and much more…

The Story: Mike Trout’s Hall of Fame timeline.
The Monkey Says: A Hall of Fame resume by age 27? Sure, why not? Trout can do anything.

The Story: Mike Scioscia still feels the Angels are better off with Ernesto Frieri as their closer.
The Monkey Says: Ugh. I get that he has to say these things to show support for Frieri, but this ship has sailed. Jerry Dipoto is simply being left with no choice but to acquire a better, proven closer if only to prevent Scioscia from re-installing Frieri in the late innings.

The Story: The Angels will likely have to make a roster move this weekend.
The Monkey Says: Efren Navarro will probably be sent down to make room for another reliever, though it isn’t clear who that will be as they’ve churned through most of their best options. I honestly can’t even make a good guess at this point. If I had to pick, I’d say Buddy Boshers, but I have no confidence in that.

The Story: Garrett Richards continues to build his All-Star credentials.
The Monkey Says: He’s pretty hard to ignore at this point.

The Story: Albert Pujols doesn’t “believe in slumps.”
The Monkey Says: Slumps aren’t the Easter Bunny or Santa Claus, Albert. They are real. We’ve all seen them. We’ve all seen YOU have them. Frequently.

The Story: Mike Trout’s amazing ascension.
The Monkey Says: We are now at the part of the season where there is a daily dose of Trout porn. This is today’s entry.

The Story: Each contending team’s top trade deadline need.
The Monkey Says: First off, I’m glad the Angels qualify for this list. Second, really? You can never have enough starting pitching, but I guess I think more of this rotation than this piece gives them credit for. If they can add a David Price, that is clearly something they should do, but I don’t think acquiring someone like Jason Hammel is going to move the needle all that much, especially in the post-season. The bullpen seems to be a much bigger need because they don’t just need one more arm, they need at least two, if not three.

The Story: The Annoying Opponent All-Stars.
The Monkey Says: How you make an annoying opponent All-Star team for the Angels and don’t have Ian Kinsler at second base is beyond me. I get the methodology of the piece, but Kinsler is the very definition of the most annoying Angels opponent.

The Story: The [Your team name here] Way power rankings.
The Monkey Says: We’re #1!
