The Story: Mike Scioscia was upset over the replay decision that overturned Mike Trout’s homer on Monday night.
The Monkey Says: He was so mad that the yellow line on top of the wall was repainted after the game. That is only a slightly crazy overreaction, but he has a valid point in that it did not appear that there was irrefutable evidence in the video to justify changing the call.
The Story: Erick Aybar has rebounded defensively this season.
The Monkey Says: As usual with players, Aybar cares not for advanced metrics. However, he did confirm my suspicion that his defense (and likely basestealing as well) took a hit because his heel bothered him all of the 2013 season.
The Story: Looking at how amazing Mike Trout’s grand slam against Chris Sale really was.
The Monkey Says: Honestly, I really don’t know why pitchers try and pitch Trout down in the zone. The Sale pitch wasn’t even a mistake and he demolished that ball.
The Story: Analyzing the AL West draft classes.
The Monkey Says: The “no loud tools” position players thing is a growing trend for Ric Wilson and Jerry Dipoto. Clearly they prioritized pitching, but they have a ton of position players in their system who are solid, but don’t do any one thing particularly well. That profile makes for a system full of guys destined for reserve roles should they even reach the majors.
