<![CDATA[The May 13th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Shoemaker added to rotation, Stewart to DL, Jimenez called up and much more…
The Story: Matt Shoemaker will take over Hector Santiago’s vacated rotation spot.
The Monkey Says: Not a shocker. Shoemaker has been solid in Salt Lake and was originally on the Opening Day roster after making a strong impression in camp. He is a low ceiling guy, but he might be good enough to be a competitive #5 starter.
The Story: Ian Stewart was placed on the DL with a bruised hand and Luis Jimenez was called up to take his place.
The Monkey Says: Lucho should get most of the starts at third for the next few days at least. It sounds like David Freese’s recovery is going a little slower than hoped, so Jimenez might have to pick up the slack for over a week.
The Story: Mike Trout will never be the face of baseball because he is not controversial.
The Monkey Says: Well, he can’t even win the first round of #FaceOfMLB voting on Twitter each offseason, so that’s not a surprise (also both are stupid). MLB just isn’t a flashy game anyway, so I really don’t think anyone can be the “Face of MLB.” It is a team that has always been marketed much more by team than by superstar.
The Story: Mike Trout is a source of pride for his struggling hometown.
The Monkey Says: And all of Millville will be at their upcoming series in Philadelphia starting today.
The Story: Raul Ibanez is one of the hitters who could be in for a breakout based on how far from the center of the plate pitchers are pitching him.
The Monkey Says: Really? Someone should probably inform Raul about that.
The Story: A look at the Angels and their league-leading baserunning.
The Monkey Says: This is a very underrated upgrade in offense for the Angels this year who were pretty mediocre on the basepaths the last few years.]]>
