The Story: Tyler Skaggs suffered a minor setback and now won’t be activated this weekend.
The Monkey Says: Matt Shoemaker lives to see another day. The Angels generally seem to be very conservative when it comes to injury recovery, so they didn’t see fit to rush Skaggs here. He’ll have to wait another time through the rotation now to get back on the mound.

The Monkey Says: Nobody said it was sound logic. Suffice it to say that this incident will be covered extensively in this week’s Second-guessing Scioscia.
The Story: The Angels might reevaluate C.J. Cron’s roster status if they can’t find him consistent playing time.
The Monkey Says: Cron needs to play regularly to continue his development, but if anyone should lose their roster spot because of that, it shouldn’t be Cron who has performed well in his limited role.
The Story: Dane De La Rosa is preaching patience as he tries to return to form.
The Monkey Says: He can tell us not to focus on his velocity, but I fully intend to. De La Rosa took off in 2013 when he made some mechanical adjustments and was working in the 94-97 MPH range. Right now, he is sitting 89-91 MPH and that just isn’t going to work. He’s got a long way to go to get back to being the legitimate weapon he turned out to be in 2013.
The Story: Angels players have mixed reaction on the topic of smokeless tobacco and Tony Gwynn’s death.
The Monkey Says: Gwynn’s passing is sad, but it isn’t like people were unaware of the health hazards that tobacco posed prior to his death.
