The May 9th, 2014 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including stadium options for the Angels, Maronde sent down, Brooks Raley claimed and much more…

The Story: A look at the Angels’ possible stadium options.
The Monkey Says: Negotiations appear to be reaching a tipping point, so this is a story that we will be hearing about quite a bit. I have a hard time imagining that the Angels won’t work something out with the city given that they are willing to pay for their own renovations. Then again, Tom Tait really seems to be out to get them and even seems to be going after the “Anaheim in the team name” issue again.

The Story: Nick Maronde has been sent down with a corresponding call-up pending.
The Monkey Says: They expect to call up a position player, most likely Brennan Boesch as they need someone to help in the outfield. They honestly don’t have any other options as Shuck and Jimenez are ineligible to be called up for a few more days. It is basically Boesch or Efren Navarro, but since Navarro can’t help in the outfield, he doesn’t make sense. I also wouldn’t expect them to call up someone not on the 40-man roster (like Matt Long) since they are running out of 40-man roster spots that they can clear.

The Story: The Angels claimed left-handed reliever Brooks Raley off waivers from the Twins.
The Monkey Says: Jerry Dipoto will never stop stockpiling LOOGYs. Raley only just converted to relief this season and has a little big league experience, so there is hope for him as a reclamation project here.

The Story: Buddy Boshers was designated for assignment.
The Monkey Says: This was to clear the 40-man roster spot for Raley. He’ll likely clear waivers and wind up back in Salt Lake.

The Story: The Angels’ season so far is a matter of perspective.
The Monkey Says: I’m definitely glass half-full. They are doing a fair job of weathering this early storm of injuries and bullpen problems. They will have a lot of work to do, but it isn’t like anyone is running away with the division. Texas, Seattle and Oakland had their own hardships early on, so the Halos did miss an opportunity to take advantage, but they still look like a team that should be in the mix for a playoff spot.

The Story: The Angels gave Derek Jeter a pinstriped surfboard as a retirement gift.
The Monkey Says: If nobody gives him a gift basket of Jeter memorabilia, then a great opportunity for comedy will be have been.

The Story: The Burlington Bees, the Angels’ Low-A affiliate, blew a 17-1 lead and lost 20-17.
The Monkey Says: This is just incredible. Not only did they blow such a massive lead, but they blew it so badly that they still lost by three. By the way, that Burlington team is terrible. There are almost no players on that roster of any real note. It is Elliot Morris, a few fringe guys and then a bunch of filler.

The Story: PECOTA’s take on first base prospects.
The Monkey Says: C.J. Cron apologists probably shouldn’t read this.
