The Monkey Says: These celebrity proposals and prom dates are getting out of hand. At some point, they need to cost something. I wouldn’t go so far as to demand prima nochte, but something.
The Story: Predicting what the Angels will do when everyone starts coming off the DL.
The Monkey Says: The big suggestion here is that Hector Santiago could be sent down, an idea gaining steam of late. If Burnett really is ready soon, it makes sense as Santiago isn’t really getting much action now anyway. Keeping him stretched out to start is key since Shoemaker might turn into a pumpkin at any moment. I also didn’t realize that Ian Stewart had an option left. The one real open question is how they will make room for De La Rosa. Morin and Kohn have been good and Salas hasn’t been that bad. It isn’t mentioned, but I think it is far more likely that Kevin Jepsen gets DFA’d.
The Story: Collin Cowgill got the night off due to hamstring tightness.
The Monkey Says: He was available to come in as a sub though, so it is just more of a precautionary rest.
The Story: Dane De La Rosa will re-re-start his rehab assignment in Salt Lake today.
The Monkey Says: I wouldn’t hold me breath for him to be activated from the DL soon.
The Story: Sean Burnett could be activated from the DL in the next week or so.
The Monkey Says: I honestly thought they might never get Burnett back, so this is great news as he can be not just a great LOOGY but a lefty who can sometimes handle right-handed hitting as well.
The Story: The Angels might skip Matt Shoemaker this time through the rotation.
The Monkey Says: Two very good starts and this is the thanks he gets? This maximizes the Angels chances to win more games, but only marginally so and comes with the opportunity cost of getting everyone an extra day’s rest.
The Story: Jerry Dipoto “would be surprised” if R.J. Alvarez and Cam Bedrosian don’t see time in the majors this year.
The Monkey Says: The bullpen is crowded enough as it is, so it would likely take injuries for either of them to get a shot. At a minimum, they should be September call-ups with the hopes that they can be a 2013 version of K-Rod.
