The Story: Mike Trout will continue to slide headfirst.
The Monkey Says: This despite the mounting evidence of it being more likely to cause an injury, and the fact that it is probably slower than sliding feet-first. Let’s remember we had this conversation when Trout separates his shoulder in the middle of the pennant race. Let’s also hope the Angels are in a pennant race at some point.
The Story: Kole Calhoun is working out in the field and appears to be near a return.
The Monkey Says: That is the assessment of a reporter, not a doctor, but encouraging nonetheless. Seriously, this Shuck-Cowgill starting every game thing is killing me.
The Story: Mike Trout is, amazingly, one of the players already outpacing his pre-season projections.
The Monkey Says: There is no projection system that can contain Mike Trout.
The Story: Mike Morin barely arrived on time for his first big league game.
The Monkey Says: I feel like this happens a lot with call-ups. The travel stories of all of these last minute call-ups should be documented somewhere. Wait, no, that’s a terrible idea. Forget I mentioned it.
The Story: Angels pitchers have produced the third-most full counts in the league.
The Monkey Says: And C.J. Wilson is their leader. Literally, he leads all pitchers in full counts. This should surprise no one.
The Story: David Freese’s starting job is not in jeopardy.
The Monkey Says: So says Scioscia, for now. He also mentioned elsewhere that the only reason Ian Stewart plays third over Freese is because Scioscia wants to be able to slide Stewart over to another defensive position, if necessary, and he can’t do that from DH.
