The Story: Mike Trout won the AL Hank Aaron Award.
The Monkey Says: An actual real MLB award, finally. This was a foregone conclusion but had someone like Victor Martinez been able to snake it from him, then it would have been sign that there might be some MVP voting shenanigans on the horizon.
The Story: Joe Maddon returning to Anaheim appears highly unlikely.
The Monkey Says: Scioscia made it clear he wasn’t about to step out of the way so Maddon could take over, as if that were ever an option. What also isn’t an option is Maddon returning as a coaching staff member. He didn’t cut and run on the Rays so he could go back to being the Robin to Scioscia’s Batman. Still, it was funny watching the Angels and half the other teams in baseball scramble to talk to the media within hours of Maddon leaving Tampa to declare that they weren’t going to fire their manager so they could pursue Maddon. It looks like Maddon will probably sit this season out and then have his pick of jobs next winter. I wouldn’t expect the Angels job to be available to pick from though.

The Monkey Says: Kaleb Cowart is among them, continuing to hit only from the left side. More importantly, he continues to hit. There were rumblings late in the season that he’d be converted into a pitcher this winter, but that has yet to materialize.

The Monkey Says: Subscription only, but I wouldn’t worry much about it. There are interesting tidbits, but grading any draft just months later is kind of pointless.
