Halo Headlines: Trout wins Sporting News Rookie of the Year, Bobby Wilson claimed by Blue Jays, rehashing the AL MVP debate one more time

The October 23rd, 2012 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim including Trout wins Sporting News Rookie of the Year, Bobby Wilson claimed by Blue Jays, rehashing the AL MVP debate one more time and much more…

The Story: Mike Trout was voted the Sporting News AL Rookie of the Year.

The Monkey Says: This is not the official award, but it is voted on by other MLB players, so it is a very nice honor.  The real intrigue hear though is that four players actually voted for someone other than Trout.  Say what you want about the MVP race, there is no standard by which any AL rookie was better than Trout who may very well have had the best rookie season in MLB history.  To commemorate the loss of Wilson, I leave you with this lasting image.

The Story: The Angels designated C Bobby Wilson for assignment and he was claimed by the Blue Jays.

The Monkey Says: This is kind of surprising.  Wilson is basically Jeff Mathis (not so) Light, but Scioscia seemed pleased with him as a back-up.  Dipoto obviously thinks otherwise, smartly so because Wilson cannot be counted on as a starter in the case that Iannetta gets hurt again.  Some see this as a sign that Hank Conger will be handed the back-up spot, but I still believe he is going to be dealt with the Halos picking up one of the many veteran back-up catchers on the free agent market like Kelly Shoppach, Chris Snyder or Jose Molina.

The Story: The AL MVP race should still be up for discussion.

The Monkey Says: The alternate title was "A thinly veiled premise to talk about the AL MVP in a desperate attempt for pageviews."  Sorry, but this topic has been beaten to death and I just want them to announce the winner so we can all express our nerd rage and get it over with.

The Story: What the four non-Trout RoY voters were thinking.

The Monkey Says: As only he can, Sam Miller tries to figure out what ridiculous reasoning the aforementioned four voters had for voting for someone other than Trout.

The Story: Do pitchers regain their velocity after switching from relief to the rotation?

The Monkey Says: C.J. Wilson is featured prominently in this study and the results are about what you'd expect.  I think this is also a pertinent post to read considering that Nick Maronde could be going through this transition in the coming years.

The Story: The top Angel homers of 2012 in GIF form.

The Monkey Says: I watched the first Trumbo GIF on loop for about two hours.  I still can't believe the ball didn't just explode into a cloud of dust.
