Halo Headlines: Wilson wins Adenhart award, Angels game delayed by swarm of bees

Halo Headlines: Wilson wins Adenhart award, Angels game delayed by swarm of bees

The September 23rd, 2013 edition of daily news for the Los Angeles Angels including Wilson wins Adenhart award, Angels game delayed by a swarm of bees and much more…

The Story: C.J. Wilson won the Nick Adenhart award.

The Monkey Says: That is the award for best Angels pitcher of the season. Personally, I think Joe Blanton got screwed. This never would've happened had they passed those voter ID laws.

The Story: Yesterday's Angels-Mariners game was delayed due to a swarm of bees.

The Monkey Says: What is weird is that I think this was the second Angels game to be delayed by bees this year. This can't be a good sign. I fear that the bees are plotting a takeover. I, for one, welcome our new insect overlords.

The Story: David Carpenter and Daniel Stange were outrighted off the Angels' 40-man roster.

The Monkey Says: Once upon a time Carpenter seemed like he could be a good groundball specialist, but he just never figured out how to put it together. Stange just was never anything more than a guy who could throw hard. This is just housekeeping as the front office preps the 40-man roster for the off-season.

The Story: Jered Weaver expects to make his next scheduled start.

The Monkey Says: That should allay some fears that maybe there is something more serious wrong with his arm, but it isn't going to prevent me from watching the radar gun like a hawk as his velocity dipped in the two starts prior to his unexpected skipped turn in the rotation.

The Story: Mike Scioscia has been impressed with what Andrew Romine has shown this month and didn't rule out Romine competing for a starting job in 2014.

The Monkey Says: Romine can really flash the leather, but he can't hit a lick and having him as anything other than a reserve would be foolish. He might make a nice complement to Grant Green at second as a late-inning defensive replacement, but his bat doesn't hold up at third base even a little bit.

The Story: There are rumors that Mike Scioscia and Jerry Dipoto have been working to fix their relationship.

The Monkey Says: Flowers and chocolates does it every time, but maybe they need a nice quiet weekend getaway together, you know, without the kids. I know a lovely little bed and breakfast in Santa Barbara that I'd be happy to recommend. Or maybe they should just wait two weeks for arte to fire one of them, which still seem inevitable.

The Story: Mike Trout's obscene second half puts him with the greats.

The Monkey Says: What I really can't wait for is when Trout starts getting the Joey Votto treatment where people bash him for drawing too many walks and not swinging to try and drive in runs. I'm guessing that sets in some time in July of 2014. Can't wait.

The Story: A review of AZL prospects Hunter Green and Natanael Delgado.

The Monkey Says: Both offer a lot of potential but both are clearly a long ways away from contributing. Probably far enough away that Jerry Dipoto won't be around to reap the credit for landing the both of them when they break into the majors.

The Story: The end-of-season post-mortem for the 2013 Angels.

The Monkey Says: I wrote this, so I assure you it is simultaneously respectful of the Halos but also laden with schadenfreude.

The Story: Hope for the Angels to return to contedership in 2014.

The Monkey Says: Dare we dream to hope again?
