<![CDATA[He's another big-name, free-agent wide receiver who is closer to the sunset of his career.
That means New York Jets veteran Brandon Marshall doesn't fit the Los Angeles Rams' rebuilding plans, right?
Not necessarily.
Admittedly, Marshall struggled with a dysfunctional Jets offense last season, collecting just 59 receptions for 788 yards in 2016, numbers that were just above half his production in 2015. His three touchdown receptions just scratched the surface of his 14-TD performance the previous season.
At 32 years old, Marshall might not immediately think of Los Angeles as a destination—unless it's with the Chargers, not the Rams. The Rams rewrote the definition of "dysfunctional offense" in 2016.
NFL.com listed the Rams as one of eight speculative landing spots but didn't seem convinced by its own argument about his possible relocation to the NFC franchise.
"We're venturing into dim territory," NFL.com reported. “The Rams need all the help they can get at receiver, but pairing Marshall with Jared Goff feels like drama-in-the-making. Marshall would dig L.A., but he might be a better fit for the city’s other newly arrived franchise, the Chargers.”
But in comes offensive-minded maverick Sean McVay as head coach. If he can tap the potential of No. 1 overall draft pick Goff and fix the Rams’ leaky offensive line, there’s fellow WR Tavon Austin and running back Todd Gurley in the huddle to make things interesting.
If there’s one thing the Rams lack that the Jets always seem to have plenty of—regardless of the condition of their team—is expectation.
Marshall quietly could go about his business and rediscover his prominence. After all, Kenny Britt did benefit from 111 targets last season. At the very least, Marshall could repair his reputation and give the Rams a trading piece for future draft selections that would speed up the rebuilding process.
