Your looking forward to Tanard Jackson coming back to the Bucs this year, you cant wait to see what a T-Jack/Cody Grimm combo will do. Your having dreams of John Lynch/Dexter Jackson reincarnated, but it hits you in the face that Tanard Jackson is one puff away from lifetime ban from the NFL, and not to mention he cannot participate in any training camp, preseason, etc. And thats when you realize that just like 2010, T-Jack cannot be part of the plan.
So who then? Rookie Saftey and former Gator Ahmad Black? No. Corey Lynch? No.
Larry Asante, latest practice squad project from Mark Dominik, taken midseason last year, stollen actually off of Cleveland’s practice squad last year after Cody Grimm was injured against the Ravens. Raheem Morris was high on Asante in the 2010 draft but the Browns took him instead. They never really got value from their 5th round pick, and when he was cut by the Browns and put on the Practice Squad, the Bucs swooped in like they have with so many of the players on their team.
NFL squads can take a practice squad player off any team by offering them a full contract. in other words, instead of making practice squad paychecks, if an NFL team is willing to take a player and give him a real NFL contract and put him on the active roster, its fair game.
Asante appeared in the final two games of the Bucs season, both wins, and got an interception off of New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees.
