Larry “Slomoshun” Smith wins by KO – Calls out Gilbert Vera

Three weeks ago, Smith (10-5, 7KO’s) from Dallas, Texas lost a close decision against Cleotis Pendarvis (10-3-2), but according to him he felt he was boxing a smart fight in the early rounds.

Smith returned to the ring this past Saturday night on the undercard of the Black Gloves Promotions private, black-tie affair, at the Fairmont Hotel in Dallas.  Once again, this was a fight that he was only given a weeks notice.  As usual, it didn’t matter because he stays in shape year round.  He came in at a trim 148 pounds and in the last 6 rounds he said he was aggressive and caught his opponent with some good shots.  Unfortunately it was not enough according to the judges on that night.  One Judge called it a draw and the other two gave it to his opponent.

Prior to his fight this past Saturday, Smith said he was tired of losing to close decisions and vowed to get back on the winning track.  He told North Texas Fisticuffs, “I look forward to stopping him.”  This is exactly what Smith did.  Smith scored a fifth round KO over Calvin Pitts (5-14-2) of Prairie View, Texas.

Smith is now calling out Gilbert Vera (10-3-1).  Actually he called him out before this fight, but with no disrespect to Pitts.  Smith said he remembered the close decision that he lost and now he “wants to finish the business” with Vera.  He said he plans on dismantling him if and when the fight happens.  Smith said “Gilbert, watchout here I come!”
