Last Links of 2008

Your last links of the year come now. After I post this, I’ll be working on my Year in Review. Lots o’ stuff to go over, but first, let’s give you linkage.

First, thanks to Bob’s Blitz for putting Fang’s Bites 4th in his list of 2008 Sports Websites of the Year. Newsday’s Glauber Nation was ranked first. Nice to be on any list at the year’s end.

No. 2 on Bob’s Blitz’s list Newsday’s Neil Best and Neil says today is the last day for several Arena Football League staffers. Neil has the transcript of former Denver and New York Giants coach Dan Reeves expressing his desire to coach again on Sirius NFL Radio.

Next to CNBC’s Darren Rovell who writes in The New Republic that 2009 will be The Year of the Sports Fan. Darren has a transcript of his interview with baseball agent (and snake) Scott Boras. Darren says one of the best bowl sponsorships comes from the people at Chick-Fil-A. And Darren speaks with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman about the Winter Classic.

Joe Favorito writes that MLB and NHL are using New Year’s Day for strategic launches.

Roger van der Horst of the Raleigh News & Observer talks about his experience getting a new HDTV box from Time Warner Cable.

Tom Hoffarth of the Los Angeles Daily News has the local options to watch the Tournament of Roses Parade. Tom has Charles Barkley’s mugshot from this morning’s arrest on DUI charges in Arizona.

The always lovely Lisa Guerrero writing for the LA Times’ Fabulous Forum blog chronicles her husband’s (former Orioles and Dodgers pitcher Scott Erickson) comeback in Mexico.

The Sports Media Watch notes that Sunday Night Football finished 2008 higher in the ratings from last season. Continuing its look back at 2008, the SMW reviews the year in mixed martial arts. And the SMW looks at golf’s year.

Maury Brown’s Biz of Baseball reports that Comcast has placed the MLB Network on its digital cable lineup throughout its systems in New England.

Steve Lepore wants you to vote on which story will be #3 and #4 on the Puck The Media’s Top Ten Hockey Stories of the year. Steve, however, decided on his #2 story, the Detroit Red Wings winning the Stanley Cup. And Steve speculates on future sites for the NHL Winter Classic.

Mike Flaherty of Variety says football helped to rule the primetime ratings roost.

Monday Night Football and several college bowls occupied the first seven spots in last week’s primetime cable TV ratings.

The San Antonio Business Journal says the Alamo Bowl recorded good ratings for ESPN Monday night.

The Capital (WI) Times reports that ESPN Radio switches FM affiliates in Madison on New Year’s Day.

Jim Gintonio of the Arizona Republic talks with ESPN Radio’s Mike Golic.

That will do it for this year. I’ll be back with the Year in Review later tonight. Until then, have a Happy New Year.
