Fullback Luke Lawton has been suspended four games by the NFL for a violation of the NFL’s policy against performance enhancing drugs. With there only being two games remaining on the Raiders schedule, that means that Lawton will have to sit out the first two games of next season.
This suspension will likley spell the end of Lawton’s time in Silver and Black, as it will render him unavailable for the beginning of the 2010 season. Lawton’s primary role for the season has been as part of the spedcial teams units. He has been a blow average blocker from the fullback position.
Lawton is in his fourth year in the league and second with the Raiders. He has seven catches for 37 yards in 09, with zero rushes.
This move means that Gary Russell will likely have the role as the primary fullack. Marcel Rece may be added from the practice squad to fill the open roster spot.
