Le Sunday Links

Bad attempt at French. I never could learn the language. Anyway, two NFL playoff games down and two to go today. Should be fun to watch.

Let’s give you some links today.

Starting with New York Post curmudgeon Phil Mushnick, he goes after Madison Square Garden for gouging fans for Brian Leetch Night on January 24. While I mostly don’t agree with Phil’s twisted logic most of the time, I think he’s right in this case. From Justin Terranova’s NYP TV Sports blog, he doesn’t like the idea of WFAN cutting away from the San Diego-Indy game at 3:05 p.m. in favor of the Giants pre-game show. The FAN is the flagship station for the New York Football Giants radio network.

Bob Raissman of the New York Daily News who has been in a bad mood for all of 2008 thus far, goes after an ad for the Roy Jones, Jr.-Felix Trinidad fight which tries to evoke memories of Ali-Frazier I at the Garden.

We have a few things from Newsday’s Neil Best today. First in his main column, he writes that Tony Kornheiser will most likely return to the Monday Night Football booth in 2008, which is distressing to many fans. And in a separate column, Neil says don’t think Tony Romo and Jessica Simpson are the first athlete-celebrity hookup. Neil follows up that column with a blog entry stating that athletes and starlets have been hooking up since the 19th Century. Finally, Neil has your viewing guide for today’s Giants-Cowboys game. Neil’s truly been busy this weekend.

The Sports Media Watch has the ratings for the NFL Divisional Playoffs dating back to 1999.

Warren Gerds of the Green Bay Press-Gazette says the Fox Sports production crew was on top of its game for yesterday’s Seahawks-Packers matchup. Bob Wolfley of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel agrees with Gerds.

Scott Wong of the Arizona Republic talks with CBS’ Jim Nantz who will receive the Pat Summerall Award during Super Bowl Week in Glendale.

Please don’t allow Paula Abdul to perform at the Super Bowl. Please don’t let it happen.

Tim Ahrens of the Kanakee (IL) Daily Journal writes that ESPN’s analysis of Tony Romo-Jessica Simpson was over the top.

John Feinstein of the Washington Post talks with St. Louis University coach Rick Majerus who gave up a cushy gig at ESPN to return to coaching.

David Knox of the Birmingham News is looking forward to college basketball season getting into full swing.

Steve Wiseman of The State in South Carolina looks at the new ways ACC fans can watch games on the net.

The Boulder Daily Camera reports that FSN Rocky Mountain will air a special on the 1990 Colorado national championship football team this week.

William Houston of the Toronto Globe and Mail says ratings for the NHL across Canada are up except in Vancouver.

And Chris Wilson of the Sydney (Australia) Daily Telegraph talks with Tracy Austin about the women’s side of the draw in the Australian Open. Tracy will work the Open for Channel 7 in Australia.

That’s it for today unless something breaks.
