After posting a ‘Rumblings’ blog article yesterday afternoon, Pierre Lebrun joined Ian Mendes and Lee Versage on TSN 1200‘s ‘In the Box’ to update everyone on the Senators’ goaltending situation.
Here is the latest:
“The info that I got yesterday on the Senators is that they’ve already confirmed trade offers on the table — firm offers — regarding Robin Lehner and there’s also been some interest from other teams in Craig Anderson. My understanding is the Senators haven’t told teams that he is not available, so I think right now, it’s just a wait and see for the Sens and (they’ll) figure out what the best offer is (and) which guy they trade. It seems more likely on Lehner, I think, because I think they can get more for him given his upside, but I guess the question for Ottawa is: do you move soon on what you already have on the table or do you hope that you continue to get better offers as the offseason moves on here? There’s really no pressure to do it anytime soon. Among the teams that I know that have called include the San Jose Sharks and the Edmonton Oilers – which of course is no surprise. Both of those teams really need to find some goaltending, but there are other teams as well involved, so we’ll see where it goes. The Senators really, it’s a rare thing for them. If you look at their modern history, to be this deep in goal and to be able to use that as a (trade) chip, I mean they’ve been chasing goalies (throughout) most of their franchise history. But they’re in a great position now with O’Connor joining the AHL team next fall and obviously the Hamburglar re-signed and you know, you decide whether you trade Lehner or Anderson and go from there.”
If the Senators are sitting on a firm offer for Lehner, one of two possibilities exist: 1) they’re waiting and hoping that a better offer rolls in; and 2) they might actually be more interested in trading Craig Anderson.
After Murray’s comments on TSN 1200 yesterday, I pretty much resigned myself to the likelihood of Lehner being shipped out and now, maybe there’s a chance the Senators could move Anderson out instead.
It’s a whirlwind of emotions.
I threw this out on Twitter, but if the Senators can move a goaltender to San Jose, I’m hoping Brenden Dillon is included in the trade return.
