Lecavalier is a Flyer

It is official; Vincent Lecavalier is the newest member of the Philadelphia Flyers.  The 34 year old has signed a five year, 22.5 million dollar contract with a cap hit of 4.5 million a year and a full no-movement clause.  Lecavalier, the first overall pick in the 1998 draft, has spent his entire career with the Tampa Bay Lightning before being amnestied this summer.

In the process of finding a new team, 15 teams showed interest in the veteran center and 10 teams offered him a contract.  What this signing means for the Flyers is that now they have an excellent replacement for Danny Briere in the second line center role and on the power play.  Lecavalier also brings experience and leadership to a young team that could use guidance from a player who has won a Stanley Cup before.

The Flyers are also in the process of pursuing a goaltender to complement Steve Mason, and defenseman to change the look on the back end.  Guys like Brayden Coburn and Andre Mezaros could be on their way out, while other guys like goalie Tim Thomas and defenseman Rob Scuderi could be on their way via free agency.
