Jon Lester took the mound last night and didn’t finish off May as he hoped he would. He just never looked comfortable on the mound. Lester said in his postgame that he didn’t have command of his fastball and just plain ol’ “stunk.” Lester gave up 2 runs in the first inning to put the Sox behind the 8 ball from the beginning. The Sox cut the lead with a HR from Adrian Gonzalez and then Pedey tied it up with 2 RBIs. The score would stay tied until the 6th inning when Lester was working with the bases loaded. He gave up a bloop hit to give the White Sox a 5-3 lead and his night was over. Dan Wheeler came into the game and proceeded to give up a hit to allow the two inherented runners to score. Lester’s final line for the night was 5.2 IP, 8H, 7 ER, 4 BB and 4Ks. Michael Bowden came in after Wheeler and while he got himself into some trouble, he didn’t allow any runs to score. However, the Red Sox weren’t able to get much of anything going against Jake Peavy…and fall in Game 1.
Red Sox 3 White Sox 7 BOXSCORE
