Jon Lester took a perfect game into the 7th before Michael Young hit a double to break it up. Lester would only give up one more hit (to Young again) in his first complete game of the season. He had 11 K’s in the outing and said he had better stuff than when he pitched his no-no last year.
The Red Sox offense recovered from the sluggishness of Friday night to put up 8 runs on 9 hits including 2 home runs. Lowell and Big Papi both went deep and Pedroia and Bay each had a multiple RBI game.
The victory combined with a Yankee loss put the Red Sox in sole posession of first place in the A.L. East.
