Let’s NOT Boo Our Own, Mkay?

This week, I am enjoying a lovely week of vacation…and how I am choosing to enjoy it is with a trip to Boston and Fenway Park.  Last night was my first game of the trip…and yes, I would have loved to be there for a win, but I still love being at Fenway Park, no matter the outcome.

There are a few things I don’t love about baseball.  One.  The Wave.  Two.  The Yankees.  Three.  Booing your own players.

Let’s talk about #3 for a moment, shall we?  Since when has Red Sox Nation become the type of fanbase that when something doesn’t go as we planned…that we decide to boo our players?  I always thought we were above it…better than that.  I can remember Yankees fans mercilessly booing their own players…heckling them on the field and on the mound…and being happy, proud and grateful that for the most part, we in Red Sox Nation DO NOT DO THAT.  I loved that I could say that we support our struggling players with cheers and claps…and not with boos and jeers.

Well, I guess you get off to a slow and frustrating start…and the Red Sox and Yankee fanbases start to look pretty similar.  The booing that is happening at games…is not cool.  It’s not okay.  Don’t boo Papi.  Don’t boo Bill Hall when he mishandles a ball.  Seriously.  Don’t.  Stop it.

Win or lose.  Be a fan.  Cheer for your team.  And if you feel there is nothing to cheer about…stop buying tickets, stop going to games, turn the tv off and be done with it. I’m gonna be a Red Sox fan…whether they finish the season atop the AL East or whether they finish it in the basement.  They are my team.  They are my boys.  And they still…win or lose are the MOTHER TRUCKING RED SOX.

It’s time for us…as a fanbase…TO COWBOY UP!
