I’m running out of ways to say, “I’d rather stab myself in the eyeball with a blunt object than sit down and watch this Pirate team attempt to muddle through nine innings of baseball right now,” so let’s try a slightly different approach for the lead up to this Cubs’ series.
Early last week, the Pirates strung together three pretty good games to take a series from the Cardinals, and that was good to see. And they made some mistakes, mental and otherwise, against the Brewers but they were right in the middle of all three games in that series. In general, I don’t think they’re playing as badly as they were at points in the first half even if they’re losing more regularly and part of the reason they’re so hard to watch is the losing just keeps piling up. So let’s hope these young players turn a corner in the near future and things get more exciting to watch in the next few weeks. The scuffling Cubs seem like a great place to start.
First pitch tonight is at 8:05 with Paul Maholm and Carlos Zambrano. Clemente/Cangelosi is after the jump.
Not sure what this is? Check here and here. Short version: in the comments pick the Pirates you think will be most and least valuable in today’s game. If you haven’t jumped aboard yet, it’s been a lot of fun so far and now’s as good a time as any to join in.
Positive and negative scores are direct indicators of amount of faith in Charlie Morton.
