Lightning 3, Rangers 2, SO

dallas

The New York Rangers (15-6-4) lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning (12-14-2) by the score of 3-2 in a shootout, tonight. For a boxscore and recap go to Yahoo! Sports.

…and that is why you don’t show-up an opponent. Especially a struggling one looking for anything to give them a spark and Anisimov pretty much gift wrapped that for them. I like Anisimov and he’ll do more to help this team than hurt them this season, but he just can’t do that in a one-goal game. Instead of a demoralizing goal for Tampa it turns into a positive for them. Having said that I give him a ’10’ on style points for the celebration. Any chance HBO cameras had any influence on AA’s celebration?

…we need to remember that McD has yet to play a full NHL season, so despite his almost All Star level of play this season, he’s still going to be prone to a stinker every now and again.

…Mitchell didn’t look like a guy who is 4-for-6 lifetime in the shootout.

…speaking of the shootout, Erik Christensen anyone?

…ok last shootout thought I promise, I’d like to see Gaborik just once use his quick release instead of trying to deke.

…you think Dominic Moore wanted to make up for knocking his teammate St. Louis out of tonight’s game?

…power play goal in six out of the last seven games, but I wouldn’t be praising the power play tonight after failing to put Tampa away during three third period opportunities.

…can someone explain to me what Avery’s done wrong?

…sweet goal by Callahan, not so sweet misfire on 2-on-1 with Richards late in the third.

…Rangers winless (0-1-1) since HBO cameras started rolling.

…31 minutes for Girardi. Hope Wolski made room for him in the tub after the game.

…minus the McD gaffe, defense continues to step up in the face of adversity.

…off tomorrow then on to Buffalo Saturday night.

QUOTES (via Blueshirts United):
Brad Richards…

“We knew that, even with them losing Marty, they were not going to give up If we could have buried a couple more with our power play we could have taken the life out of them, but we didn’t. They hung around, and sometimes a team going through that adversity is tough to play against.”

Henrik Lundqvist…

“We knew they would be desperate. It felt like we were the better team, but in the end we had several chances to kill the game, and instead allowed them to come back to tie it and win it.”
