The Tampa Bay Lightning have been on the rise since Jeff Vinik purchased the team in 2010. Six years later they’ve reached the summit according to ESPN The Magazine’s 2016 Ultimate Standings. Tampa Bay is literally number one in this case, taking the top spot in the standings.

The magazine ranks all 122 NHL, MLB, NFL, and NBA franchieses in “categories that matter most to fans.” Some of those 25 categories include affordability, stadium experience, fan relations, and championships won or expected to win during the lifetime of current fans. The team received high marks across all categories. They are first in owners and players showing appreciation to their fans.

Mr. Vinik and his staff have stressed the importance of a world class experience and they’re definitely paying off. Lightning fans have known this for a while. As the team continues to gain prominence in the league a lot more people are finding this out. The ranking will likely shine a light on the fantastic community involvement and efforts that have helped turn Tampa into a hockey town.

Locally the Tampa Bay Buccaneers came in at number 73 on the rankings and the Tampa Bay Rays were at number 90. The full rankings will be on ESPN.com later this week.
