The Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled defenseman Mark Barberio from Syracuse and reassigned defenseman Matt Taormina.
The 23 year old Barberio has skated in 70 games with the Crunch this season, accumulating eight goals (five on the power play), 40 points and 44 penalty minutes. the 6’1″ 185 lbs. blueliner is third among defensemen in the AHL with 32 assists. He has played in 212 career AHL games with the Crunch and Norfolk Admirals netting 30 goals and 132 points. Last season, while playing for the Admirals, Last season, Barberio won the prestigious Eddie Shore Award as the AHL’s top defenseman.
The Lightning drafted Barberio in the sixth round, 152nd overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
