On Monday evening the Lightning announced that they recalled forward Mike Blunden from the Syracuse Crunch.
With the news of Ondrej Palat’s injury that morning a call up seemed to be a foregone conclusion. Blunden may be a bit of a surprise but he’s more than earned the opportunity this year. Through 10 games with the Syracuse Crunch Blunden has three goals, five points, and eight PIMs. He is second on the Crunch in goals scored and tied for fifth in points.
The 6’4″ winger brings size and experience to the Bolts. He’s appeared in 104 NHL games and 420 AHL games over his 11 year career. Blunden played in two games last fall for a similarly beat up Lightning squad. He registered two penalty minutes and seven hits.
