Hockey fans throughout the Tampa Bay Area rejoiced yesterday as this year’s Fan Fest was announced for Saturday, September 27th. The promo photo is an awesome black and white shot of captain Steven Stamkos taken by photographer Scott Audette. The newly designed third jersey will be unveiled during the festivities on the 27th and this photo teases some of the new design.

“Black out the Date” is emblazoned on the graphic. Fans have been pondering what the new jersey will look like. If the photo and slogan are an indication, the color black will make its return to Lightning uniforms in a big way. Many took issue with the exclusion of black from the uniform redesign for the 2011-12 season since it was such a big part of the look of the Lightning in years past.
So what do we know about the new sweater so far? Not a lot beyond the color. It appears to have white stripes running from the shoulders and down onto the sleeves. There’s a basic collar with no laces. The collar looks lighter than the body of the jersey, so this could be the inclusion of Bolt blue.
One of the only other details evident in the photo is a “Tampa Bay” sticker on the side of the helmet. The current uniforms feature the primary logo on the sides of the helmets. It’s tough to tell much else at this point.
The Lightning have a history with black uniforms. That’s what they wore for most of their history and when they raised the Cup. As long as it doesn’t call back to the original third thunderstorm jerseys they should be in good shape.
