Edmonton Oilers v Pittsburgh Penguins

Random opening thought: How great is it as hockey fans that we don’t have to deal with posts about what kind of special skates someone is wearing during warmups?

Like all of us, it seems the Pens were really trying to just zone out and enjoy the long weekend. They managed to eke out a last minute tying goal from Sid and go on to a shootout victory against the Devils last night.

Pittsburgh was forced to face their own special brand of back-up kryptonite against Kevin freaking Kincaid because, well, the surprising Devils start hasn’t exactly featured great goaltending.

Now With More Metro.

Barry Trotz was busy Saturday night doing his best Blain impression.

The Capitals, meanwhile, were busy playing like hot garbage. Even though the media would rather talk about Trotz’s sweet new scar, Braden Holtby wasn’t very impressed.

After splitting their pre-Turkeyfest home-and-home with the Pens, the Rangers are still sitting on a 2-point division lead. Now they find themselves as the latest NHL team that should really be giving Adam Clendening more playing time. Seriously, how many games has this dude even played in this league, like 9? Maybe he’s not that good.

The Blue Jackets are off to a better start this season than most people had them penned for. So there’s that. We should all be really proud of them, too. Seriously, Tortorella isn’t that bad guys, c’mon.

jtorts

In Flyer news, Michael Del Zotto said he wants to be the team’s no. 1 defenseman, and apparently someone who was able to pass the low bar for becoming a sports reporter in Philly believed him and wrote an article. Good times.

Then again, you could be an Islanders fan.

Seriously, is there another major sports franchise that seems to be completely reviled by their own managment?

Oh. Right.

Enough negativity. It’s the holiday season, right? Let’s talk about how great it is to have the redemption of Phil Kessel as part of this team’s ongoing narrative.

How can you not love the guy?

Meanwhile, Back On The Farm…

Tristan Jarry notched his first shutout of the year for Wilkes Barre-Scranton. The goaltending wealth that this franchise is enjoying right now is almost stupifying.

Derrick Pouliot finished his 3 game rehab stint this past week with the Baby Pens. It’s assumed he’ll resume his spot in the PPG press box. Maybe now wouldn’t be a terrible time to see him slot in to the big club’s lineup, given the recent lackluster D play. Really have no idea how to gauge where his development is any more.

The Nailers are sitting in 3rd place in the ECHL North Division and have been playing pretty solid of late, despite a Saturday night loss to Greenville.

They hope to add some scoring support to their lineup with the activation of RPI product Milos Bubela. The 24 year old Slovak played 8 games for Utica in the AHL last season.

If you need me, I’ll be busy eating kale and coconut water until Christmas. (Jokes.)
