I’m getting closer on Part 2 of the Charlie Morton Chronicles, but as always a little digging has opened up a few answers and even more questions. I’ll definitely have something posted today, but at this point I’m questioning just how in-depth I want to take it. Until then, let’s look at some links for your Tuesday morning.
Sean’s Ramblings is again putting on the Best Pittsburgh Sports Blog tournament and the second round of voting ends today. As in past years, Sean’s put a lot of work into this and it’s always a good chance to check out and discover other Pittsburgh sports blogs that may have flown under your radar. If you recall, Bucs Dugout won last year and so I’m again hoping a Pirate blog — be it Pirate Prospects, Rum Bunter (my current opponent), Raise the Jolly Roger, or me — take home the title this year and keep it in the Pirate blog family.
Matt Bandi’s Pirates Prospects Annual is on sale at Pirate Prospects. Matt was kind enough to send me an advanced copy on Sunday and I’m working through it to give a better review by week’s end, but I will say this: Francisco Cordova’s name appears on page 9.
Pirate Prospects also has a good follow-up interview with Frank Coonelly.
Rewind yourself: Jason Kendall has finally gone off the deep end.
The Red Sox have gotten awfully creative with former top prospect (and Tar Heel!) Andrew Miller’s new contract; if they call him up at any point in the season, they’ll have to pass him through waivers to send him back to Triple-A and they’ve included a vesting, $3 million option for 2012 if he’s claimed off of waivers. Dave Cameron at FanGraphs looks at it a bit closer and doesn’t see anything wrong with it, but I can’t believe the MLBPA is terribly happy about this sort of deal. Actually, I can’t believe Miller’s agent is, either.
