Goaltender Linus Soderstrom inked a three-year entry level deal with the Islanders, the team announced Thursday afternoon.
Soderstrom helped lead HV71 to the Swedish Hockey League Championship this season and started all 16 playoff games for the club. The Islanders’ prospect posted a 12-4 record, while having a 2.11 goals-against average and .922 save percentage.
During the regular season Soderstrom had the best goals-average in the league with a 1.34 goals-against average in 22 regular season starts. The 20-year-old was drafted 94th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft.
Soderstrom is one of two goaltending prospects the Islanders are hoping can develop into the team’s started down the line. The other being fellow 2014 draft pick Ilya Sorokin.
