The Detroit Lions currently sit at 4-2 and, thanks to a 19-7 victory over the Green Bay Packers, are currently atop the NFC North Division. The Packers are 4-2 as well, but the Lions hold the tiebreaker and can proclaim themselves as the leaders of the NFC North.
The schedule gets much tougher over the next few weeks, however, with their next six matchups against teams with realistic playoff hopes. Current division leaders Arizona and New England are on the schedule, as are historically solid NFC South teams New Orleans and Atlanta. They’ll also have to face the 2-3 Miami Dolphins and divisional rival Chicago.
This upcoming week that test kicks off with a visit from Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints. The Saints are 2-3 and have not looked particularly good during the course of the season, but they are well rested coming off their bye week. Lions vs. Saints tickets have an average price of $138, just 4% below the season average of $144. The cheapest tickets available are $52. A win would further prove Detroit’s case that they are among the NFC’s elite, especially if they do so without wide receiver Calvin Johnson. The Lions defense has been terrific this season, but they have not faced an offense as talented and deep as New Orleans (though you can argue Green Bay is up there) and will need to harry Brees in the pocket if they want to get off the field. It should be a very entertaining matchup Sunday afternoon and will provide a much clearer picture as to who the legitimate teams in the NFC truly are.
