It is that time again. NFL draft time. And even though the Raiders have no first round pick, we here at TFDS have decided we wouldn’t let a little thing like that stop us from running our live draft blog. Besides, just because the Raiders don’t currently have a pick in the first round, doesn’t mean they won’t have one before it is all said and done. Let’s not forget the last time the Raiders didn’t have a pick in the first round, they traded up into the later half to draft cornerback Fabian Washington.
But even if there are no fireworks to that extent, the diehard fans will still want to follow along with how the draft is progressing with fellow Raider fans and writers. I will be at Raider headquarters running the page and keeping up with all happenings in Raiderland. So if you have any burning questions you think I should ask Hue Jackson following round one, join the conversation and post them in the comment box. And you might just get that question answered.
The first round is laid out in the current order and ready for the names to be called by the commissioner. I will be adding my commentary as the picks are made as well as keeping tabs on the top players still on the board. Just refresh the page periodically to see the latest. Then enjoy the first round of the 2011 NFL draft.

Top players available
1. Da’Quan Bowers, DE, Clemson
2. Martez Wilson, DE/OLB, Illinois
3. Stephen Paea, DT, Oregon State
4. Mikel LeShoure, RB, Illinois
5. Justin Houston, OLB, Georgia
The Carolina Panthers are on the clock. Where they have been for going on three months.
1. Carolina Panthers
Cam Newton, QB, Auburn
2. Denver Broncos
Von Miller, LB, Texas A&M
3. Buffalo Bills
Marcell Darius, DT, Alabama
4. Cincinnati Bengals
A.J. Green, WR, Georgia
5. Arizona Cardinals
Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU
-We have our first trade. The Atlanta Falcons have traded up to the sixth pick.
6. Atlanta Falcons (from Browns)
Julio Jones, WR, Alabama
This pick cost the Falcons this year’s first round pick (#27), second round pick and fourth round pick and a round two and four pick in 2012. Wow, they much really like them some Julio Jones.
7. San Francisco 49ers
Aldon Smith, DE, Missouri
8. Tennessee Titans
Jake Locker, QB, Washington
Wow! That is a shocker.
Blaine Gabbert is falling a little. The Redskins are the next team that are in the market for a quarterback. It would be surprising to see them pass. Wouldn’t be surprised to see a trade up with the Cowboys to jump ahead of the Skins.
9. Dallas Cowboys
Tyron Smith, OT, USC
Looks like the Jags are trading up with the Skins for Blaine Gabbert
10. Jacksonville Jaguars (from Redskins)
Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri
11. Houston Texans
JJ Watt, DE, Wisconsin
12. Minnesota Vikings
Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State
The lack of of free agency is causing the run on quarterbacks much higher than they should go. This is a good pick…in the second round. But most of these QB picks are second rounders
13. Detroit Lions
Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn
The Lions are back to drafting players at the same position in consecutive drafts. It was wide receivers before, now it is defensive tackles. My guess is they will have the same odds of succeeding.
14. St Louis Rams
Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina
15. Miami Dolphins
Mike Pouncey, C, Florida
16. Washington Redskins (From Jaguars)
Ryan Kerrigan, LB, Purdue
17. New England Patriots (from Raiders)
Nate Solder, OT, Colorado
18. San Diego Chargers
Corey Liuget, DE, Illinois
19. New York Giants
Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska
20. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa
The Browns have traded up, they surrender their 3rd round pick plus no. 27 overall from Atlanta
21. Cleveland Browns (from Chiefs)
Phil Taylor, NT, Baylor
22. Indianapolis Colts
Anthony Castonzo, OT, Boston College
23. Philadelphia Eagles
Danny Watkins, OG, Baylor
24. New Orleans Saints
Cameron Jordan, DE, California
25. Seattle Seahawks
James Carpenter, OT, Alabama
Carpenter is a surprising pick at this point in the draft. Most don’t see him as near the top OT available at this point in the draft. He is the Tyson Alualu pick thus far.
The Baltimore Ravens seem to have passed on their pick, whether intentionally or unintentionally. Chiefs pick is in.
26. Kansas City Chiefs (from Cleveland thru Atlanta)
Jonathan Baldwin, WR, Pittsburgh
27. Baltimore Ravens
Jimmy Smith, CB, Colorado
The Patriots trade out of the bottom of the first round as usual. The Saints trade up into the first round and give up their round two pick this year and their round two pick in 2012.
24. New Orleans Saints (From Patriots)
Mark Ingram, RB, Alabama
29. Chicago Bears
Gabe Carimi, OT, Wisconsin
30. New York Jets
Muhammed Wilkerson, DT, Temple
31. Pittsburgh Steelers
Cameron Heyward, DE, Ohio State
32. Green Bay Packers
Derrick Sherrod, OT, Mississippi
Stay tuned tomorrow as we will again hold our live draft blog for round 2 and 3 where the Raider currently have two picks.
