- The Sacramento Kings (12-17) look to end their disastrous December on a high note at home. After coming into the month with lofty aspirations, the Kings are 3-9 in a month that included 11 home games. They will try to get healthy against the lowly New York Knicks (5-26) who have lost six straight and 16 out of 17 overall. “We need to get a win,” coach Tyrone Corbin said. “We haven’t played our best 48 minute game. We’ve had some stretches in games where we played well. We’re getting ready to go out on the road for a few tough games, so we want to make sure we come out and do everything we can to get this win.”
- DeMarcus Cousins is back in uniform after missing Friday night’s game with gastroenteritis. Ramon Sessions (lower back strain) and Ryan Hollins (personal) are both out for tonight’s contest.
- The Knicks are the walking wounded. Quincy Acy is suspended for tonight’s game and will join Andrea Bargnani (strained right calf), Cleanthony Early (right knee), Iman Shumpert (dislocated shoulder), J.R. Smith (torn plantar fascia) and Amar’e Stoudemire (right knee) on the sideline.
- The Knicks have only nine players available and will have to guard Cousins by committee tonight. Former Kings big man Cole Aldrich will start at the center position according to coach Derek Fisher, but plan on seeing a lot of Samuel Dalembert as well. “We have basically three traditional big guys in Cole, Sam and Jason Smith, and DeMarcus Cousins is a load in the middle for the Sacramento Kings,” Fischer said. “So we’ll need all three of those guys to be effective for us out on the floor.”
- Rudy Gay and Carmelo Anthony are old friends from their high school days in the Baltimore area. Gay is nearly three years younger than Anthony and looked up to the Knicks star from a young age. “Really good players and great players enjoy those types of match ups,” Fisher said. “I think it brings the best out of most players.”
