Here is the latest news live from Sleep Train Arena:
- The Sacramento Kings (27-53) are fading away as this 2014-15 campaign comes to a close. The Los Angeles Lakers (21-59) are in the midst of a franchise-worst season. This is a year to forget for two proud franchises that used to call each other rivals. “Our process is probably not moving as fast as I wanted it to, but it’s a game that a lot of guys (will) get to play that didn’t play a lot of minutes during the year,” George Karl said during pregame.
- Rudy Gay (concussion), DeMarcus Cousins (sore right foot) and Darren Collison (core muscle) are all out for the season. Reggie Evans is out as well with a right thumb sprain. It’s a MASH unit that will finish the season in Sacramento.
- The Lakers are in a similar situation as the Kings, only worse. Los Angeles has lost an amazing 324 games to injury this season with 13 different players missing time. Kobe Bryant (rotator cuff), Wesley Johnson (sprained left ankle), Wayne Ellington (right shoulder separation), Jeremy Lin (sore left knee), Ronnie Price (right elbow), Julius Randle (tibia fracture) and Nick Young (fractured left kneecap) are all out for the season, and future Hall of Famer Steve Nash was lost before the season and has since retired. The Kings are a mess, but they have plenty of talent. The Lakers are just a plain mess.
- Sim Bhullar is gone and David Stockton is back. The rookie point guard was signed to a multi-year deal by the Kings on Saturday that will take him through the 2015-16 season. His deal is non-guaranteed for next season, but barring a change of heart by Sacramento, Stockton will get a shot in Las Vegas at Summer League and possibly even an invitation to training camp in October.
