Live from the locker room: Kings vs Nuggets

Here is the latest news live from Sleep Train Arena:

  • The Sacramento Kings are the talk of the NBA after starting the season 3-1 against top-notch competition.  Despite the fast start, the Kings still have a lot of room for improvement, especially at the shooting guard position. “Right now Ben (McLemore) and Nik (Stauskas) aren’t shooting the ball with great confidence, they’ve struggled a little bit,” coach Michael Malone said.  “My attitude is I have all the confidence in the world (that) when they’re open, they’re going to make shots.  We have to try to get them some easy looks.”
  • While the young two-guards are struggling, Malone is getting a huge lift from free agent acquisition Darren Collison at the point guard position.  The Western Conference is stacked at the lead guard and Collison is holding his own against the likes of Steph Curry, Damian Lillard, Chris Paul and Ty Lawson thus far.  Collison comes into tonight averaging 16.3 points, 6.5 assists, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.  On Monday, Collison held the lightning-quick Lawson to just 1-of-8 from the field.
  • Coach Brian Shaw is still piecing together his Denver Nuggets team after a series of injuries stripped the second-year coach of half his roster last season.  While most of this roster has played together for multiple seasons, they seem to lack chemistry early.  “I hope it doesn’t take too long,” Shaw said of his team’s early chemistry issues.  “We’re three games in right now and I guess the most difficult part is the fact that the guys that are returning from injury, and we have four, not counting J.J. Hickson who’s on suspension, those guys are still on a minute restriction, not only in the games, as well as in practice.  They still haven’t had a lot of time to gel with their teammates.”
  • The Kings sent rookie forward Eric Moreland to the Reno Bighorns to get some seasoning and a lot of playing time on Tuesday morning.  The Bighorns started training camp yesterday under new head coach David Arseneault Jr.
