- The Sacramento Kings (17-32) take on the Phoenix Suns (28-23) tonight, but the game has almost become secondary. Rumors continue to swirl that the team is in full-fledged negotiations with George Karl to take over the reigns of the Kings from Tyrone Corbin. “It’s a tough situation. It is what it is,” Corbin said. “You know, you just got a job to do and you’ve got to try and get these guys ready for a game tonight and we’ll see what happens from there.”
- Corbin will go into tonight’s game without 40 percent of his starting lineup. Darren Collison is day-to-day with a right hip flexor strain and Rudy Gay is a late scratch with a sore left foot. Ramon Sessions is scheduled to start at the point and Omri Casspi will get the nod at the small forward spot. Speaking to Collison before the game, it sounds like the Kings will take a cautious approach to his injury. It is unlikely that he will play again before the All-Star break, which starts on Thursday.
- Phoenix will play short-handed as well. High-scoring guard Eric Bledsoe is not with the team due to the birth of his child. Big man Alex Len continues to miss time with a sprained right ankle. With Bledsoe out, former King Isaiah Thomas will get the start.
- Suns head coach Jeff Hornacek played and coached alongside Tyrone Corbin in the past. “Ty’s an ultimate professional,” Hornacek said. “He’s going to go out there, he’s going to try to get this team to play the best they can tonight. And all the other stuff that goes on, he’s been through it before in Utah. It’s a tough thing to go through, but he’s excellent at handling those situations and who knows what will happen for him.”
